In white, Mecha Naut could pass for something in a museum case until you switch it on. Then the tentacles start moving in a slow flowing rhythm, the propeller at the back begins to turn, and the whole thing stops behaving like an ornament. You'll catch yourself watching it far longer than you meant to, which is generally how these things go.

The pale shell makes the reveal better, because nothing about it suggests there's a mechanism inside. Lift the alloy covering off and there it is — copper, steel and gearing, none of which the outside prepared you for. Build it yourself from the assembly kit or choose the pre-assembled collectible, then set it on its illuminated base. Some objects ask to be left alone. This one is designed to come apart.
